1. Why did you choose this structure over the other two? What are the advantages and disadvantages of this specific one?

I decided to choose the second structure which has a mirror. First, during the tests from the last few weeks, I noticed that the other two structures will lose a lot of details as a canvas because of the small size. But with the mirror structure, I can draw more small and exquisite things, and add more light colours, such as using light grey with white background. The other reason is I really like the symmetrical art.

However, it does have some disadvantages. When I try to draw a thing that needs to be
symmetrical at the junction of the canvas and the mirror, it is difficult for me to grasp the size and proportion, like the half of the circle, or the human’s face...... And of course, sometimes absolute symmetry can also be the limitation of creation.

2. Explain what your animation is about and how your work engages with the unique elements of this structure as a “canvas”.

The purpose of the work is to explore visual motifs in visual terms such as repetition and dynamic shapes, fluid and natural movements of 2D liquid effects, like drops and explosions. The project focus on the abstract rather than the narrative. It is visually gratifying and nice to look at, especially when it is responding to music.

The screen is black and white at the beginning. Over time, the light blue join the animation. Then with the rhythm of music, the picture becomes more and more colourful. In this project, I try to converge the points of the screen from the two scattered sides to the centre, which is the boundary line of canvas and mirror. Then the points back on both sides, to broaden the attention of the audience. And then create a ring shape explosion style. At this moment, the things on the screen become one symmetrical form rather than two, and the audience may temporarily forget this is a mirror.
